Jessica O’Rourke from Mud Bugs has put together 3 simple activities for you and your kids to enjoy this Summer.
Pressed Flowers
This activity is great for preserving colour and flowers and introduces children to one method of preservation. This is a lesson of patience, science and beauty. Keep it simple and just talk through the activity and allow your child to take the reins then. If your child is on the younger/ more impatient end of things, why not do an extra pressing and hide it away so your impatient child has a surprise pressed flower to look at and use in crafts in Autumn or Winter for gift tags or cards.
Summer Potions
This activity is a great way of introducing the concept of mixing, measuring, filtering, condensing and concentrating liquids. You can extend this in many ways by giving your child some extra tools such as a measuring jug, pipette, spray bottles, sieves, muslin cloths for straining and whisks for mixing.
Loose Part Art
This activity really highlights the power of loose parts and how it can stretch and open up the mind and imagination. Less is more and natural loose parts support your children creative and imaginative development no end. Give it a go. This activity and SEVEN more are included in the Summer Box which is available here.
