What is Second Hand September?

Second Hand September is an initiative by Oxfam, which encourages people to say YES to second hand clothes for 30 days.

The fashion industry might not be the first sector you think of when it comes to big polluters – but the sector is responsible for 10% of global pollution.

Over 92 million tonnes of waste is generated and 1.5 trillion litres of water is used by the fashion industry annually.

If fast fashion production continues as is, more than 150 million tonnes of clothing will be sent to landfill or burned by 2050. That’s over ten times the weight of the world's population!

 Sadly, human rights abuses, modern slavery and environmental destruction remain rife within the fashion industry.

Second Hand September is a great chance to rethink how we shop.
